The Cow

I have this Relic in the collection and I must say I do not know what the real story is behind it.

It is a small ceramic cow that my mom had as long as I can remember. it's about 4 inches long and has a small quarter inch hole at the base of his neck.

Is it an inkwell? A tiny vase?

--Mostly it's a dust magnet.

The Puzzle

This relic was a gift puzzle given to me over 20 years ago.

The trick was it all had to be positioned and then compressed all at once.

It has not been disassembled in like 20 years...

--You take it apart. You put it back!

The Aviators

When I was 18 I took flying lessons.

My parents were very supportive in every way they could be. It turned out I was color blind and any thought of a career as a pilot was a non-starter. My parents even got me color blindness corrective contact lenses. One was red. It gave me a look that was un-nerving to some.

After I solo'd for the first time I came home very proud of myself and immediately told my folks.

Later that night my Father gave me his Aviator Sun glasses that he had during WWII.

I wore these glasses many times as I flew over our fields wagging my wings at my Pa out on the tractor.

--I will fly again some day soon...

The Iron Stove

My mom had a small, scale model, cast iron wood burning stove just like this one. This is not that one.

We saw this one at a flea market and had to scoop it up.

This one has pots and pans, a kettle, even a muffin pan!

--Fun stuff.

The Dentists Bear

Brenda scored this Relic and it came with a good story. We have it in out library over the Grandfather clock (another Relic).

The story begins with a dentist that did some pro bono work for a patient in need. This patient felt guilty about not being able to pay. In stead of cash the patient gave the kind dentist this bears head trophy.

The wife of the dentist didn't want it in their house but the child of the dentist thought it was awesome.

This child took it to his elementary school and donated it to his teachers classroom.

The teacher quietly got the willies from the bear. As soon as that specific child was gone for the summer the teacher sought a new home for the bear.

The Resin Radio

This small art deco radio is a Relic I bought at an auction in 1981.

I was with Wife 1.0 at the time. The radio never worked but it had a good speaker. I re-wired it so I could use it as a computer speaker on my desk.

--I have plans to convert it as an iPod dock radio.

The Pirate Toy

This is a little toy Pirate that I got from a McDonalds Happy Meal when the kids were little.

For many years it was propped up over my rear view mirror holding my EZPass in place because the double sided tape had failed.

I kept it as a relic because when my kids were young and they were sad in the car for some reason, I would pretend to have conversations with the Zombie Pirate Skeleton that was over the mirror watching our every move.

--It makes me remember how much I love my children.

The Paintball Trophy

This Relic is a plaque that I won by placing second in the Rocky Mountain Paintball Association tournament.

I was a replacement team member that day. My brother Russ was sick so they buried me in leaves and let me guard the flag. My nephews Jason and James were also on the team.

It was a great big pile of camo fun that day.

--We only needed paramedics twice!

The Gollum

Gollum
This Relic is another sculpture I made in Mike Powers art class at Genesee Community College.

It is based on the Hildebrandt Brothers Lord of the Rings Calendar.

It has always been very fragile. His pinky finger is broken off. It creeps a lot of people out!

--I love this sculpture.
