Robbie the Robot

Here are some more robots from my collection.

Robbie the Robot is from the 1956 SciFi film FORBIDDEN PLANET. It's one of my favorite movies and it still holds up today.

Robbie was a great design and appeared in many other shows.

My Custom Guitar

 

This guitar was hand made by my friend Mike.

It is amazing and I am trying to learn how to play it. 

I am actually considering lessons because Youtube is not cutting it for this old dog that is trying to learn new tricks.

I also have a nice acoustic guitar my son gave to me. Playing that is more likely to keep me safe from my wife murdering me...

The Paper Weight

 It's a classic paperweight I keep on my desk. It also functions as my fidget spinner!

I actually have a couple of these but could not find my other one.

--Damn handy when you need it. To, you know, hold down papers...

Robot Pals

Here we have three robots from my collection.

I have a lot of robots from the movies and TV now.

The Rotary Phone

In my den where my collections live I also have this heavy, weighs a ton, classic rotary phone.

It even works. Well, it would work is my land line was actually active.

In my next home, I plan on having it fully functional just so I can hear it ring.

---It's music to me.

Throwing Axes

I know it is an odd thing to collect, but they are both fun and practical!

You never know when a Zombie outbreak might happen and a Viking throwing ax might be handy.

Great for camping and target practice!

--Just having them causes children to behave.

The Royal

One of my neighbors was selling his fathers typewriter. He posted it on-line in a local Yardsale listing. I don't know anything about typewriters except that I wanted a fully manual one, because... reasons.

Anyway, I went over to check it out. My friend Schwartz is kind of a collector of retro manual typewriters and told me to try all the keys and if they all worked $20 was a deal! It's perfect for my roll top desk!

I may post an updated photo after I clean it up. I have already ordered a new ribbon.

Pocket Diaries of 1869 and 1870

I can't remember how I came to own these relics. These are the pocket diaries of Laura Stevens from 1869 and 1870.

I plan to one-day carefully photograph each page for reading.These are smaller than a wallet each.

I included the dollar bill for scale.

They have always been in the Whitmans Chocolate tin.

The MITRE Desk Clock

This Blog has been quiet for a while. This Relic represents the reason this blog is back to life.

I Retired!

The excellent folks at MITRE gifted me with this engraved desk clock as a reward for my years of service.

I will miss the people there.

Daisy Model 960

This is a Daisy Pop Gun. It's a Model 960. It was a gift from my wife Brenda for Christmas 2017.

She saw it at a flea market and had heard me talk about collecting vintage BB guns and cap guns enough that she got it for me. The funny thing is that it is not a BB Gun at all. Sure, it's made by Daisy, the famous BB Gun Maker, but it's just a Pop Gun.

It's a good thing. I coulda shot my eye out!

The Rams Head

I received this beauty from my wife as a birthday Gift one year.

As I type this, the Ram is directly over me, on the wall in my den above my desk.

She was once again shopping at a flea market and bought it as a gift and managed to keep it a secret and hidden for months.

--She LOVES me!

My Fathers Machete

This machete was my fathers. He had it in the jungles of Panama during WWII.

He gave it to me long ago when he saw I was collecting swords. He had seen my machete and commented on how the original canvas sheath he was had, was long ago rotted away.

It is made of really good spring steel and my dad resisted putting it on the grinder to sharpen it.

--Still cuts well and true.

The Machette

When I was about 12 years old I was already a big time camper. I was in the Cub Scouts and then the Boy Scouts and I was a campin fool.

One day I went to the big flea market in Clarence NY with my friend Ray Clark and his family.

I had money because I worked for my parents on the Nursery and they actually paid me a decent wage. Mostly because at 12 years old in 1972 I was already bigger than they were.

I bought this for $6 and it was worth every penny.

--I still take this bad boy camping.

Dice Collection

Like most nerds, I have collected dice over the years.

This is just some of them.

Some are more interesting than others...

Lost in Space: Robot

This was my first Robot in my collection. I now have several that I will post eventually.

This classic guy is from Lost in Space and only had the name ROBOT.

The coolest thing about this one is that it has a proximity motion sensor. Is something gets too close it will scream DANGER, DANGER WILL ROBINSON! And lights will flash, it's torso will swing back and forth and the top globe will move up and down.

I have it on my desk to scare the shit out of my cat so he doesn't sleep on my keyboard.

--Best. Toy. Ever.

Graduation Tassels

These are my tassels from my graduation caps. The green and white one is from Pembroke High school.

The black one is from Genesee Community College.

1978 was a long time ago. Relic indeed.

NRA Pin

My newest addition to the Relic collection is my NRA Life Member lapel pin.

I attended to 2014 NRA Annual Meeting this year and while there I signed up as a Life Member.

This pin came in the mail with the rest of my packet!

There is a long story behind this pin. The Short version is that the church I have attended for over 20 years failed me and let politics become more important than people. This intentionally offsets some of those politics.

--Besides, suddenly I have thousands in extra cash!

Hotei

Brenda found me a a lovely, jade-looking, sculpture.

The sculpture is of Hotei, today in Japan by many considered to be the one of the seven lucky gods of Taoism who is responsible for wealth. The image portrayed is that of Budai, a 10th century Chinese monk who, according to legend, found happiness by foregoing material wealth.

It is made out of some kind of resin that the interesting.

It glows in the dark.

The glow comes from within, not just of the surface.

--Cool and a bit haunting really.

The Parking Tag

On September 9th I had surgery on my spine. I had lumbar fusion work done.

Today was the last day I used this tag.

It was almost a ceremony when I removed it from my car and placed it on a shelf in my den.

--I hope I do not need another one for decades...
